It is important to use earplugs that are the appropriate size in order to achieve good attenuation. For children, better fit may be achieved using Size Small Earplugs, which have a reduced diameter for smaller ear canals, or E-Z-Fit Earplugs, which are bell-shaped to better fit small ear canals.
The plugs should fit deep and snugly into the ear canal and should fill the ear canal completely. Proper fit is achieved using the Roll, Pull, and Hold technique.
Roll the earplug into a thin cylinder.
Reach over the head with one hand and Pull up and back on the ear to straighten the ear canal while inserting the earplug deeply.
Use your finger to Hold the earplug in place for 20 seconds as the earplug expands to fill your ear canal.
If inserted properly, the earplugs should not be visible sticking out from the ear when looking at an individual from the front.
